Why Emotional Healing Needs Physical Support

I truly believe our bodies know how to heal—when given the right circumstances.

You can’t expect to heal while consuming junk thoughts or junk food. You are what you consistently consume whether that is physically or emotionally. Healing isn’t just about therapy (though that’s important); it’s also about how we care for the body that carries the wounds.

I often talk with clients about ways to support the nervous system and body during emotional healing. While it's becoming more common knowledge that food impacts mood and that chronic stress contributes to inflammation, the connection is still underestimated. The truth is: all disease involves some level of inflammation—so physical and emotional health are deeply intertwined.

I’m not a doctor, and I’m not offering medical advice. What I am sharing is my personal journey—what I’ve learned through decades of trial and error, lived experience, and a long road back to health.

During an abusive marriage, I developed an autoimmune disorder. Once I left that relationship, many of my physical symptoms drastically improved. That experience taught me how much our environment and stress levels affect the body.

Over the years, I’ve explored many forms of alternative healthcare—while also navigating periods of low or no income. I had to get really intentional about what was essential and what was not. I don’t believe in taking a mountain of pills every day. Balance matters. Simplicity matters.

Here’s what my current support system looks like:

  • CBD (water-soluble): This is helpful for overall immune and nervous system support.

  • Electrolytes & Minerals: Use a clean, powdered blend to support hydration, brain, and heart function. Trace minerals found in unrefined salt can also support your nervous system.

  • Plant-Based Protein Powder: I removed dairy and red meat from my diet about 20 years ago after realizing how inflammatory they were for me. Dairy triggered chronic sinus infections, cystic acne, and body aches similar to arthritis for me. Protein helps stabilize blood sugar—which is key for mood, clarity, and preventing panic or anxiety spikes.

  • Adaptogenic Herbal Blend: Herbal supports or blends that include GABA, ashwagandha, rhodiola, etc. help regulate the body’s stress response.

  • Magnesium Glycinate + L-Theanine: You can take both at night to support relaxation, muscle tension release, and nervous system calming. Magnesium is essential for hundreds of bodily functions. L-theanine is a gentle, natural anxiety support.

  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Found in fish and some plant sources, these support brain health and overall cellular function. Healthy fats are essential, not optional.

  • NAD: (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) can support anxiety and depression by boosting cellular energy, improving brain function, and regulating neurotransmitters. Many report enhanced mood, reduced stress, and greater mental clarity as it helps restore balance to the nervous system.

Here’s the thing: trauma survivors need extra support. Trauma wires your brain for hypervigilance, and healing asks us to rewire for restoration, safety, and connection. This doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a lifelong process of tuning in and nourishing the system from the inside out.

I’m not rigid about supplements, but I do know that consistency matters. Little things done regularly add up.

I also want to be clear—I’m not an expert in nutrition or medicine. I am someone who has spent decades walking this path of healing and figuring out what works for me. I also have a few trusted providers I refer to when clients want more individualized or clinical support.  You may benefit from having your thyroid panel or hormone panel tested. A lot of physical deficiencies or imbalances can mimic mood disorders. Even food intolerances like gluten, dairy, caffeine, sugar, and alcohol can make a difference in mood regulation.

As always: listen to your intuition. You know your body better than anyone else. Supplements can cause side effects—so approach anything new with caution and curiosity and listen to your body.

Reach out to me if you'd like a referral for medication management, nutrient or hormone testing, or other medical professionals.

Yours,

Eva
